Young Hearts 4 God (Now Available)
A Program Promoting Healthy Hearts for Elementary Age Children
About Our Program
Increasing numbers of children face problems with over-weight and obesity due to widespread poor dietary habits and reduced levels of activity. These factors can trigger the early onset of heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes. The Young Hearts 4 God Program started at Pleasant Green United Methodist Church helps children learn about and improve the longterm health of their hearts based on solid medical research, with related Bible stories, games, activities, and snacks promoting healthy choices.
Our curriculum includes seven lessons that can be used with Summer Camp, Bible School, or Afterschool programs.
“I give you thanks O Lord, with my whole heart... ” Psalm 86.

Young Hearts 4 God takes us on parallel journeys with the adult series, where we explore “Heart” scriptures, New and Old Testament Bible stories and characters that illustrate healthy heart attitudes, Psalms, and hymns. Colorfully designed for elementary age children, seven weekly segments give practical background and guidelines for heart healthy living.
Each segment averages 2–3 hours in length, and activity times may be adjusted for use with Summer Camp, VBS, or Afterschool. Materials are designed for children grades 2 to 5, but, we include K to1st graders by asking staff and older children to assist them with activities.
Segments include information content for teachers, 2-sided illustrated handouts to help guide discussion, journal pages, suggested videos, activities, games, puzzles, coloring projects, and recipes for healthy snacks. Topics include how the heart works, exercise, healthy eating, managing stress, and using God’s gifts for good living. An annotated resource guide contains detailed information on children’s Bibles, books, websites, videos, and catalogues. Appendices provide further information on health topics, snacks, and games.
